elonex-carphone-webbook

We’d heard this was coming, but now the final details are out: sign up for Orange mobile broadband through The Carphone Warehouse, and you’ll get a free laptop!

The Elonex laptop is exclusive to the store, which is calling it a “WebBook”. It’s a 10.2-inch ultra-portable, packing either Linux or Windows XP on an 80GB hard disk. As you’d expect, there’s built in Wi-Fi, as well as 3 USB sockets and a card reader.

You’ll get your hands on it free, just by signing up to a £25 per month two-year deal with Orange, although you can also buy it as a stand-alone device for £220.

We reckon it’s a pretty good deal if all you’re after is a route to the Internet. Although the Elonex machine’s battery is a little wimpish, with a life of only 2.5 hours between charges.

Still, it can be upgraded with a hard drive, and for £25 a month, we’ve seen much worse deals!

HTC Shift Ultra-Mobile PC laptop

You don’t have to compromise productivity for the sake of portability, says HTC with its looming release of the new HTC Shift Ultra-Mobile PC laptop. The Shift is small in size, big on function, boasting the power of Windows Vista and ultra-fast 3G connectivity in a small, lightweight package. HTC calls it “smart mobility.” This ultra-mobile PC laptop features a seven-inch widescreen display with a 30GB hard drive, Windows Media Player 11, Tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA, Quad-Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, an easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0. Sources reveal that the Shift will be available in Europe and Asia in a week, and will be landing in the U.S. in about a month at a retail price of approximately $1,599. HTC

Windows Mobile

Unlock i-Phone2G/3G 2.2.1 Price ($323)

We don’t see many handsets coming out with native price-tags in Rubles, but here’s a little gem from RoverPC. The Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional-powered RoverPC P6 is fairly slim (15.1 mm, to be exact), pretty slick, and definitely likable. It’s not the greatest WinMo offering, but it ain’t that bad, either.

As the Professional moniker suggests, the RoverPC P6 rocks a 2.4-inch touchscreen. This little guy only sports a tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900Mhz) radio, which will keep it from hitting the US-mainstream. But, if you like the sound of a 2 megapixel camera (with video recording), Bluetooth 1.2, miniUSB, microSD card slot, 128MB ROM/64MB RAM, and Windows Mobile 6.0 - all powered by a Samsung 2442B CPU clocked at 300Mhz - then grab the RoverPC P6 for 7990 Rubles ($323) at your nearest Russian mobile retailer.
